Graduate / Junior Developer - SQL - Permanent - Edinburgh
Head Resourcing is working with a respected investment management organisation in Edinburgh that is looking to recruit a Graduate Developer or a Developer with commercial experience that is looking for their first move. In this role you will be responsible for providing technical development skills in the creation of a range of business solutions, covering all areas across the software development lifecycle from analysis, design, construction, testing, installation, through to modification and support. You will also work alongside external vendors / partners that will deliver solutions - ensuring that solutions meet the data and analysis business needs of the customers across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and test solutions that meet the needs of the business users
- Take responsibility for support calls or small requests that have been assigned, maintaining systems to perform in a reliable, scalable and robust manner
- Carry out investigation, analysis and documentation of business problems in terms of functions and processes, and the information and systems they use
- Maintain good levels of communication with other members of the team, the wider business and 3rd party suppliers
- Ensure business users and senior staff are kept up-to-date with progress and manage expectations
- Participate in small projects, delivering tasks to agreed deadlines under the direction of a Project Manager, Business Systems Analyst or Senior Analyst/Programmer.
- Organise, prioritise and schedule own workload and ensure any issues are escalated appropriately.
- Contribute to good levels of motivation and morale within the team, ensuring the team works harmoniously with the rest of the team and the business at large.
- Keep abreast of technologies and new developments in the industry
Essential:
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent (or comparable work experience)
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience in manipulating complex data sets
- Experience working with a programming language such as C#, Python, Java, or JavaScript
- Understanding of development or project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Prince etc.)
Desirable:
- Any knowledge of the investment management industry
