Digital Software Development Manager - Permanent - Glasgow

Head Resourcing is working with an organisation in Glasgow that is looking to recruit an experienced and accomplished Software Development Manager with an exceptional background in the delivery of software projects across a digital landscape. The role provides leadership to the development team and leads on strategically important projects including the future architecture of the organisation's digital services. You will lead on the implementation of the new technical strategy to ensure that digital services are modern and future proofed to align with the wider digital strategy.

As a key member of the Digital Leadership Team, you will lead a team of Senior Developers and Developers, encouraging a positive culture of continuous improvement and collaborative working whilst maximising efficiencies from a service delivery perspective. They will ensure our development team is leading the way in the development of excellent digital services that ensure the organisation is at the forefront of digital delivery. You will act as an ambassador for the organisation, raising the profile of the organisation on a national and international stage by showcasing our technology approach at high-profile large-scale events and by engaging senior stakeholders in foreign governments and national bodies.

Responsibilities:
- Lead on the development of our future architecture strategy for the use of modern technology to develop first-class digital products
- Lead on the modernisation of digital services - exploring the use of innovative technology where appropriate
- Lead on the implementation of the future architecture - developing a roadmap for the implementation of the strategy taking into account project delivery, continuity of service, resourcing and any project-related risks
- Own the security of websites and digital products, implementing industry standard cyber resilience programmes to protect from malicious activity
- Manage the development infrastructure, ensuring 1st class functionality and efficiency for the development of digital products
- Lead on the selection and implementation of suitable technologies to streamline internal operations and help optimise strategic benefits (including automated testing and improved deployment practices).
- Lead a cross functional development team, encouraging teams to be open, collaborative and forward thinking whilst solving complex business problems
- Identify skills gaps now and in the future and create succession plans which provide opportunities to up-skill employees and grow our own talent that are aligned to the ambitions of the digital services team
- Lead the Senior Developers to ensuring adequate resource is aligned to support product development, dev-ops activity, maintenance of code and critical business as usual activity is managed appropriately
- Embed a culture of continuous improvement, everyday leadership and actively encourage creativity and innovation to complex technical problems.

Essential:
- Expert in developing and implementing technical strategy for large scale digital services teams
- Significant experience in a technical role in a software development context where you have successfully led a development team
- Experience of working in a fast-paced digital environment, delivering complex projects
- Experience of operating at a senior management level
- Significant experience of working with senior stakeholders in the development, planning and delivery of digital services
- In depth knowledge of the creation, development and maintenance of digital products
- Experience of working with internal and external suppliers, integrating 3rd party solutions and working with APIs

Desirable:
- Experience of working in agile development teams or knowledge of agile principles
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as Acquia, platform.sh, Azure or Pantheon.
