Data Engineer - Hybrid (1-2 days Leeds City Centre) - up to £51k + benefits

Head resourcing are recruiting on behalf of our client Schroders Personal Wealth (SPW) who are a dynamic new company in the financial advice market who have a brilliant range of roles available across the IT space.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Schroders Personal Wealth (SPW) Data Engineering team, based in Leeds city centre (hybrid). The role will be critical in delivering the Technology strategy for SPW, ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability. Delivering this strategy will also provide ample development opportunities, in particular progressing our new Data Lakehouse and implementing an iPaaS solution throughout 2024.

Working with Python, SQL, AWS and PowerBI, you will build, rebuild and maintain data pipelines as well as have the opportunity to work with Terraform and shape the role and your progression

Salary | £47,272 - £51,000

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of existing data pipelines; pre-empting issues and responding to any incidents in a timely, professional manner.
  • Development of new pipelines as per business requests or to stabilise the current operating environment.
  • Liaising with other areas across the business to help define requirements for new projects, including both pipeline and ETL requests.
  • Implementing and owning the monitoring on key processes.

Core Skills/Competencies

  • Languages - Expert in SQL (Postgres, Athena Presto SQL) and proficient in using Python to build, maintain and orchestrate data pipelines across the business.
  • Amazon AWS - Experience using a serverless approach primarily utilising Lambda Functions, Glue (Jobs, Crawlers, Catalogues), Step Functions, SNS (notifications), SQS (queue service) and S3 (object storage).
  • Data Engineering - Demonstrable experience (> 2 years) working within a Data Engineering function, building data pipelines in a cloud native environment with an in-depth understanding of best practice.
  • Communication skills - Able to communicate and engage with the business in a non-technical way to gather/replay requirements and ensure successful and timely delivery.
  • Documentation and deployment - Experience delivering in a controlled manner ensuring changes are tested, approved and deployed in accordance with agreed business protocols (GitHub). Documentation should be clear and easy to understand for all audiences (technical and non-technical).

Preferable but not essential

  • Infrastructure as Code (IAC) - Experience with Terraform (new/future infrastructure) and experience with CloudFormation (legacy infrastructure).
  • Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) - Any experience working with an iPaaS would be preferable, particularly MuleSoft.
