Data Engineering Developer (PL/SQL, T-SQL, ETL, BI, Oracle) needed for an initially 6 month contract with our Investments & Asset Management client in Edinburgh.

The right candidate must have demonstrable Development experience and a strong understanding of databases and data storage options. Extensive experience in SQL and PLSQL, PL/pgSQL and/or T-SQL is essential.

You should also have experience in designing and building ETL solutions, data warehousing, data virtualisation (e.g. Denodo), BI Reporting and automated testing for data. Experience in other programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, Scala, C#) is desirable.

Knowledge and experience in distributed architecture concepts, data mesh and domain driven design would also be considered desirable. This is not a support role or purely a coding role but requires someone who will be part of a team, participating in stand-ups, team retrospectives whilst also actively participating in design discussions, tooling research and evaluation.

Responsibilities include:
*Working with other team members and stakeholders to identify and fulfil requirements with appropriate technical solutions.
*Communicating progress & ideas to the team lead and other team members.
*Contributing to the development of current standards and procedures, principals and patterns
*Building positive and productive relationships with external partners and internal colleagues
*Investigating, learning and assessing new technology solutions that are either vendor supplied or bespoke, in-house developments
*Investigating, evaluating and enhancing new and existing data ingestion tooling e.g. Change data capture, event based and/or publisher/subscriber based queuing or file based data ingestion
*Analysing existing systems and processes to determine and understand the lineage and impact of data and data systems
*Investigating, evaluating and enhancing new and existing solutions to move, prepare and store data
*Investigating, evaluating and enhancing new and existing solutions to present data to consumers

Essential Experience includes:

*Full application development lifecycle experience
*PL/SQL, SQL and PL/pgSQL and/or T-SQL experience
*Agile Methodologies
*Data Ingestion, movement and storage Solutions
*Data Virtualization
*Databases (preferably ORACLE)
*SQL
*Experience of using Source Control (e.g. TFS, Git etc.)
*Solid understanding of physical modelling and implementation

Desirable skills include:
*Experience working in Investment Management
*Containerised deployment methods (Rancher/Kubernetes)
*An appreciation of and enthusiasm for data and data solution
*Experience creating and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
*Experience creating and maintaining Database DevOps pipelines in Azure DevOps using a release automation tool

Excellent communication skills and a friendly and professional approach are also essential.

This role will require 1 - 2 days per fortnight on-site in Edinburgh as things continue to open up, though the rest of the time can be worked remotely. Contractors are also required to engage via an FCSA accredited Umbrella Company / PAYE solution.
